Begin your adventure with a spectacular 40 minute helicopter flight. Getting you up close and personal with Titea (Mt Aspiring) as you fly over remote glaciers along the way. Arriving at the secluded alpine lake, which sits 1000m high above sea level, you can explore this pristine area.

This is a fully guided tour, with a qualified and experienced Stand Up Paddle Board (SUP) instructor. A SUP paddle on an unspoilt, remote mountain lake which is not accessible to most. Then kick back on the shoreline and enjoy a decadent gourmet picnic.

FULL ITINERARY

A Truly unique once in a lifetime experience. Paddle Wanaka Heli-SUP starts with you meeting your guide, either at the Wanaka I-site or outside your hotel door! It’s a quick drive out to the Wanaka Airport. Here you will arrive and prepare for your exciting flight over Mt Aspiring National Park to a remote and stunning alpine lake. Make sure you have your camera handy, you don’t want to miss out on some of these ones!!

After an epic scenic flight in to the mountains, you’ll prepare for your SUP exploration. Get your safety gear on and start your instructional lesson and get on the water! You have 2 hours of exploration of a beautiful mountain location. There is plenty of time and lots to experience. You can take lots of photos and perhaps even take your first ever dip in a pristine alpine lake like this. Your guide will share with you stories about the history, environment, and legends surrounding Wanaka.

Enjoy two hours of soaking up the pure magic that surrounds you. Park up on the beach and enjoy a locally produced gourmet lunch. “Tonic for your soul”. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife. Enjoy the sound of your own self, embracing a visit to such a unique and beautiful natural environment. While your enjoying your lunch your guide is preparing for lift off, packing and preparing for the journey home.

Arriving back at the Wanaka Airport around midday, you have the rest of the afternoon wishing you could spend more time in the mountains of unique and beautiful Central Otago, New Zealand.

FAQ's

What should I wear?

You will want to wear something that you don’t mind getting wet. Prepare to be in alpine conditions, bring warm clothing with your togs underneath. Avoid Jeans or cotton.

What should I bring?

You don’t need to bring much. Togs if you wish to swim and a towel. Sunscreen, camera, hat and sunglasses. Any medication you require. A water bottle and a change of clothes for afterwards.

What equipment is provided?

We provide Stand Up Paddle boards, paddles, leashes, helmets, wetsuits, wetsuit booties. Personal Floatation devices. Extra warm clothing layers. Your guide has all the necessary safety equipment on hand if necessary.

How long am I on the water for?

You will be on the water for a maximum of 2 hours. You will then have a break for a gourmet picnic and drinks. There is time at the beginning of your trip allocated for instruction and briefings.

Can I bring my own SUP equipment?

PLEASE do not bring any of your own equipment. We supply all of the equipment. We have a very strict environmental policy to protect a fragile alpine environment. We monitor the presence of algae and other un-welcome germs into this special area. We work very hard to protect this particular environment.

Do I need previous experience?

No. This trip is tailored specifically to your groups experience level.

Do I need to be able to swim?

You do not have to be able to swim. But please let your guide know so they can manage this aspect.

Is the water warm?

Not typically the water temperature in alpine areas ranges between 8-12 degrees

Will I get wet?

Its likely some part of you will get wet. It is possible to fall in while paddle boarding its all part of the fun. Some even choose to jump in 🙂

Where do we go?

The Heli SUP only operates on perfect weather. We fly 40 minutes in to the Harris Mountain Range where we begin our adventure on an alpine lake. We protect the name of this lake to reduce the effect uncontrolled tourism would have on such a remote and beautiful area.

Will there be other groups on our trip?

There will be no other clients on your trip. The Heli SUP is exclusively private bookings with Paddle Wanaka.

Do you go in all weather conditions?

This trip operates in fine sunny weather conditions.
