Our friendly guides will meet you in town, and then whisk you away by water taxi to a remote section of the lake. Soon you will be out exploring Lake Wanaka’s outstanding coastline as you kayak through crystal clear blue water, learn about the local area, and have some great laughs!

The Tiki Tour starts with you meeting one of your guides, either at the Wanaka I-site or right at your accommodation door! From there, it’s a quick drive down to the lake, where you will all hop onto a water-taxi, beginning your 15-minute scenic cruise to a remote section of the lake. Your guide will explain the lay of the land and the plan for the day.
Arriving at the kayak starting point, you’ll get your safety gear on, get a kayaking skills lesson, and get on the water! The pace you paddle at is determined by the group dynamics, and whether you are more interested in taking photos or in testing out your Olympic sprint time! No matter how fast you go, after about an hour your guide will find you an epic spot to take a rest and have a picnic (a light beverage, plus the best brownie you will ever have!)
Looping back to your start point (after exploring a few more hidden sweet-spots and taking a few more photos), you’ll leave the kayaks behind, hop back on the water-taxi, and cruise back into town. Your guide will be drop you back off where you started, and you can spend the rest of your day wishing you were still on the water!

You will want to wear clothing that you don’t mind getting a little wet. You won’t get soaked, but a little bit of splashing is normal. Dress in clothing that is active and appropriate for the weather.
All you’ll need is active clothing, sunscreen and other sun protection, a water bottle, and maybe your camera. We provide all safety gear, plus a splash jacket and spray skirt to keep you as dry as possible.
Not at all! The Tiki Tour is great for first time paddlers and families. The pace and the route will be adapted by your guide to fit the needs of the group.
From the time we pick you up, until the time we drop you off, you should anticipate about 4 hours. Transport by water-taxi is usually about 20 minutes each way, and we’ll spend about 2.5 hours on the water and picnicking.
You do not need to be able to swim, but please let your guide know so that they can make sure you are comfortable on the water.
Yes! If you would like a private tour, please contact us to book it. The cost for a private Tiki Tour is $220 for adults and $95 for children under 13.
The kayaks we use for our Tiki Tours are very stable, so it is unlikely that you will fall in. Your guide will be there to help you learn to use your boat and show you how to manouever it safely, as well as to assist if you have any difficulties.
We will try and keep you as dry as possible, but getting a little wet from the splashing of your paddle is normal.
We use a double sea kayak with a simple rudder system called a Mission Eco Niizh. They are very stable and great for first time kayakers.
We go rain or shine! If there’s a lot of wind around making the lake choppy, we know some great sheltered spots where we can still go kayaking!
How far you go depends on how fast your group decides to paddle, but typically Tiki Tours go a total of 5-8 km.
